FIA Volunteer Comment - "It’s really not that much that we do for Arlene, though I’m sure it’s just a relief to her that she doesn’t have to worry about those things we help her with....It has also been very rewarding for me and my son to have met Arlene and to be able to help her out when we can..." -DM-

What can a Volunteer do?
- Provide companionship and emotional support.
- Provide a gift of time, rest and relief to the caregiver.
- Help a Care Receiver with errands, shopping, appointments, etc.
- Help the patient with hobbies he or she enjoys.
- Bring some fun and friendship into someone's life.
What are my Benefits as a volunteer?
- Many volunteers report that they personally receive far more than they give.
- Ongoing training and support from the program.
- The chance to make a difference in the lives of others.
Volunteer Caregivers work to meet two mutually entwined and equally
important purposes.
~ to respond to the ever-growing needs of older and physically challenged
adults living in our communities who struggle daily to maintain their
independence at home.
~ while providing meaningful opportunities for volunteers of all ages to enrich
their lives and live out their faith by helping others.
Volunteer applications, screenings, and training/orientations must take
place before matching with a person in need.
* Potential volunteers need to submit an application and successfully complete
the Volunteer training. We want to give each volunteer the confidence to be
able to perform various tasks for a care receiver and also understand the
parameters of the work of the agency. A training session generally lasts about 1
hour. We review information in a training manual and offer every opportunity for
questions.
* Reference checks and criminal record checks are completed for each
volunteer.
Volunteers come from all walks of life. Some have retired from their careers
and find the work of a volunteer both rewarding and fulfilling. Others are busy
with their families but recognize the needs of the elderly in our community and
want to assist in some way, too. We even have teenagers that give of their
time to provide some of the services used by the care receivers with Faith in
Action.
We need caring individuals to help with the work of the agency. YOU decide
when you are available and what types of services you are willing to perform.
Maybe you're willing to provide just one medical trip for a care receiver each
month - that's great! We are grateful for any time you can provide.
