History
Faith in Action of Marathon County began as a way to support the county's population of frail
elderly and disabled individuals who depend on community support to maintain an
independent level of living.
*Start-up funding for our program was received from the Robert Woods Johnson Foundation.*

Built on the Golden Rule
that is shared by all
faiths..."do good unto
others as you would have
them do unto you,"
Faith in Action of Marathon
County is about friendship
and support being
provided by ordinary
people willing to give of
themselves to be a friend,
a companion, a helper in
the community.
Guiding Values
Volunteerism & Faith-Based Service
All service to others, whether motivated by faith-based values & teachings, or drawn from a
personal desire to serve those in need are foundational to our program. We are committed
to respond, assist & support, as we are able, using all of our unique talents. We believe
this "pure" giving, as well as the personal commitment & responsibility to one another's
well-being help to strengthen our entire community.
Stewardship
We place high value on exceptional stewardship of all the gifts presented to us, including
financial and material gifts, as well as the resources of time and talent that are offered on
behalf of others' needs. In this same vein, we value the opportunities for nurturing
community involvement, along with the resource sharing and collaborative efforts that
enhance the common good of all.
Compassion & Empathy
We strive to always treat all persons with whom we come in contact with the utmost
kindness, care, and compassion, remembering to always try to put ourselves into the
"shoes" of the other person, so that we can respond with greater understanding and love.
Dignity, Independence & Hope
We believe in the individual worth and dignity of every human being. We recognize the
inevitability of the aging process and the daily struggles of the physically challenged
neighbors. True respect for the intrinsic worth of all life compels us to empower and
safeguard the rights of all who seek our service, working to maximize their full potential in
our community. We strive always to bring hope to each individual & we hope always to
make a better world, by making a real difference in the lives of real people.
Inclusiveness & Interdependence
As an organization, we recognize the special opportunity that is ours to engage local
congregations from all faith backgrounds, and individuals with diverse characteristics, in
taking responsibility for our community together. We recognize that through acceptance,
sharing and mutual assistance we enrich each other and are better together than by
ourselves. We recognize also, that whenever one in our midst suffers, we all do; whenever
one is served, we all are.
What Makes Faith in Action of Marathon County Unique?
Although there are a number of quality programs in the area to help older and physically
challenged adults, they cannot meet all the needs that exist. The FIAMC program does not
aim to supplant these services, but to supplement them, by working in different ways.
IN TRANSPORTATION:
FIA volunteers are potentially available at any hour of the day, any day of the week, allowing
us to get people to 6:00 a.m. outpatient surgeries, as well as late night errands, and we
also provide help for weekend needs.
Our services have no pre-definded boundaries. We have in the past taken persons across
city and county lines, and have transported people as far as Madison.
Our volunteers provide one-to-one, round-trip rides, assisting persons who need help with
a wheelchair or walker, and staying with those who need supervision or companionship
due to confusion or fear.
IN ALL SERVICES:
There are few programs available that offer many of the services that FIA does, and most
are far too expensive for those struggling on limited incomes. We are often the only
realistic option for help with transportation, housekeeping, chores, repairs and respite care,
because we are able to offer all our services without a charge.
For long-term, ongoing needs such as friendly visits, respite care, housekeeping, etc.,
volunteers and clients are matched one-on-one through a process of interviews, home
assessments and personal match visits.
All volunteers and clients are offered ongoing support by our professional staff to help them
with various needs and concerns.
Connecting People in Need with People who Care! Volunteers from all walks of life assist their elderly and disabled neighbors with simple tasks that allow them to live independent in their own homes.

"We All Need Someone to Lean On"
|
Our mission is to recruit and train volunteers to provide supportive services to people in
need in Marathon County. We will develop and maintain a network of congregations from
which to identify those who can give help and those who need help.
Our vision is to serve those in need who are not served by other agencies and to improve
their quality of life.
We would like to share
some of the wonderful
stories that happen in our
program every day.
So, if you are a client, let us
know how we’ve helped
you.
If you are a volunteer, how
has your volunteer
experience touched your
life?
We plan to share these
quotes and stories in future
newsletters and maybe even
the local papers. Help us to
help others by sharing your
story.
